As we begin April, a passage from Musonius Rufus on the proper use of judgment and assent:

“To diagnose good and evil, useful and useless, or helpful and harmful is the job of no other than the philosopher.  A philosopher has treated this very subject with the goal of not being ignorant of any one of these things and has made it his art to know what leads people to happiness and unhappiness.”
